Review -
Speed Trance - Instant Hypnotic Inductions for Stage, Street and Clinical Hypnosis.
By John Cerbone and Richard K Nongard.
Recently I watched this two DVD set and have found it to be a really useful and valuable addition to my hypnotic library. As an experienced hypnotist who has done stage, street and thousands of hours of clinical work I watched the preview for the product online and must admit wondered if there would be much I could learn from the DVD but after giving it my full attention have found plenty of good stuff in there.
Nongard and Cerbone demonstrate a wide variety of rapid inductions (possibly 10 or more) most of which are in some way original to them. They reiterate over and over the importance of making use of eye fixation, confusion, overload and other hypnotic techniques and encourage you to experiment and personalise the inductions. They explain them, demonstrate them in a broken down fashion and include footage of them used live. They also indicate how they can be adapted and used in a clincial as well as performance setting.
What was refreshing was the emphasis on health and safety - simple tips that if you use them ensure the well being of everyone is taken care of. Also they are not afraid to give examples of how things can and have gone wrong in their early days of hypnotising and what they do now to prevent you making the same mistakes.
The bonus feature is a complete one man stage hypnosis show with multiple skits. If you can't do rapid inductions after watching and absorbing this take up tap dancing.
All in all a quality product and good value.

Yes this DVD [Speed Trance] is the best I bought in years, top of the shelf stuff. I have been practicing hypnotism for about 3 months before buying Richard DVD and I instantly hypnotised dozens of people much more easily, while making the induction faster.
It's really a good DVD and I recommend whomever do clinical or stage hypnotism, as well as begginers in hypnotism. Great tips on security, fun to watch richard and john are very funny at times.
People think that people under 18 years of age can't hypnotise people, I don't believe in it anymore.
(And no I'm not paid by Nongard to do publicity :)

I watched Skits & Bits and I really liked it. I have been doing stage hypnosis for some time, and I still found the dvds very useful. They are packed with a lot of information for any hypnotist out there, from the beginner to the person who has been doing it for years. Thanks to the both of you for putting out such a great dvd.

HI Richard,
I just received the 'Skits & Bits' DVDs, WOW, that was some good instuction with you and Mr. Cerbone! You're both very funny and have wonderful opinions and thoughts on our art.
You've both given me some food for thought and some solid ideas and formulas to get a show together! I've been doing shows for a long time but had no ideas as to the 'why' of doing 'what'. Now I do.
Can't wait to get more of your wonderful Hypno products!
Sincerely, Guy :)

Hello John, Thanks for Speed Trance.
Recently purchased your speed trance DVD set and just wanted to thank you for sharing this technique. I was originally trained by Cal Banyan who uses instant inductions in the clinical setting. I've studied Justin Tranz and a lot of other people. I have done a lot of instant re-induction in my stage shows, but I was reluctant to use instant induction cold or as a street technique. However, now, I am using your techniques in my shows with great results. Hope we run into each other at SHOW or NGH or somewhere on the road.

OK, I have now finished the two DVD’s of the Skits and Bits and had some time to think. I will start with the conclusion and then expand from there.
If you are just beginning in stage hypnotism this set will be very, very valuable for you. If you have experience you will still get your money’s worth from them…so on to the discussion.
When learning stage hypnotism from different sources I have found that most sources are at least adequate when teaching pre-talk and induction. Most also do an acceptable job teaching the basic framework of a show and a few things to watch for.
Then they get to the show itself and its “go get ‘em boy”, you get a list of skits and you are on your own. For example one web site of skits lists quite a few ideas…I’ll copy a couple skits here;
Alien
You are an alien from another planet, but you have learned English.
Audience Naked
Tell the subjects that they will look out into the audience and notice that everyone is naked.
Auto Race
Tell all of the subjects that they are professional race car drivers and will now be driving in a race.
Babies Come From?
I know that all of you are very smart for being in the first grade. I need your help, I am trying to find out where babies come from. Whoever knows, raise your hand.
Baby Burp
You are holding a cute little baby. The baby is starting to cry. You need to burp the baby. As you burp the baby something is coming out of both ends of the baby.
Bad Odor
Tell all of the subjects that they will begin to notice a bad odor coming from the person sitting next to them.
Become A Celebrity
Tell the group that they are all well known celebrities. You may then have them introduce themselves or conduct an interview with a select few.
Body Itch
On the count of three, some part of your body is beginning to itch. You will need to scratch it.
Bragger
You are the worlds biggest bragger.
Bra Zipper
Every time I touch my chin the women will realize that their bra strap has just broken. The men will realize each time I touch my chin their zipper is open.
These are just a few I copied from the beginning of the list…so now you have to do a show.
You don’t know what to do from here? You don’t know how to develop these ideas into entertainment?
When I started neither did I. Being given a list of skits does not teach you how to do them. This brings us to the DVD set being discussed. I have always thought that to some extent experience can be bought…Skits and Bits is a very good example of this.
Skits and Bits is an instructional set I wish I had when I started out. It is a good discussion of several types of skits with demonstrations.
What skits to do and when are important…this is discussed in detail. Also taught are how to take a skit and make it go from G-rated to R-rated.
What I found very helpful with this set was the discussion between the two hypnotists. Not only do they discuss the skits before and after the live show demonstrations but the contrast between the two hypnotist’s approaches to each skit is very instructive. One will mention how they do something in a skit and the other will input their thoughts and variations. It is like being included in a hypnotist’s jam session and is very instructive.
Another advantage of this set is you get to see both standard skits and ones you haven’t seen before. If you begin like most hypnotists you learn the basics and then attend shows, secretly making notes and thinking about doing those skits. Skits and Bits has all the basics in one place. By the time you pay a cover and buy a few drinks you will have spent more than the cost of this set, with far less to show for it.
As I mentioned, if you are just starting in stage hypnotism Skits and Bits will accelerate your learning how to actually do a show rapidly.
So, what if you have experience? This set also has value then. Everyone does things a bit different and little touches can always be added to what you do. In addition the discussions increase in value here as I found myself thinking how I would do things differently.
Two examples…one skit uses a voodoo or magical doll as the core plot trigger. I immediately thought about my white bunny puppet and considered how I might develop the routine unique to my own personality.
This routine also had me thinking back to a routine I once developed but kind of flopped. I had an old Danny O’Day vent puppet and set up a routine where a girl married the puppet in a hypnotic wedding ceremony. Problem was how to finish the skit off….I now have an idea how I would do that.
Another routine that got me thinking was their version of the quiz show. I liked how they steered the answers but thought I would use totally different questions.
The quiz show also triggered a few thoughts on a Jerry Springer routine I’ve done. In that routine the participants become Jerry Springer guests and as one guest said during a routine, “When this trailer’s rockin’ don’t come knockin’ “…the quiz show discussion triggered ideas of other places I could take this within the context of the Jerry Springer skit.
Everything can’t be covered as you can’t anticipate all the things your participants might do. When they were discussing the standard “Elvis” routine I thought of how I do that routine.
I also use a woman as Elvis but had a surprise one show. We were on a stage in an auditorium and the stage was about five feet above the first row of seats. When the Elvis music started this girl took the plastic guitar and leapt off the stage, diving into the audience before I could react. I was just lucky there wasn’t an orchestra pit there.
I tell this story as it is important that you understand that no matter how basic a skit seems you don’t get cocky. This is discussed but needs to be addressed and emphasized over and over…just because you know a skit doesn’t mean you can turn your brain off.
Everyone is different and there are skits here I wouldn’t do as I only play G-rated. You need to know that you will see people humping chairs and having screaming orgasms. Before anyone gets on a pedestal to criticize these skits it is important you know that there is a big market for this type of hypnotism. One example is if you ever play a college fraternity. These guys will not be happy if you stay G-rated…they really want the strong stuff and want to see someone bark like a dog (also covered within the context of one skit).
I have become a big fan of DVD instruction and will write a bit on that later…it isn’t a substitute for personal instruction, nothing is. Still it is worlds better than learning from books and will save you many months, if not years, of learning from trial and error.
The publishers of this DVD have several DVD’s out…their website is;
A good beginning can be had from just this site. You would need three DVD’s…
First, you should get Stage Hypnosis Exposed.
Then you need an induction…either the Terry Stokes relaxation induction or the Micheal John’s induction will work well.
Then get the Skits and Bits DVD set.
These are way more than I ever had to start stage and will give you both the theoretical and practical skills you need to begin in stage hypnotism.

Hi Richard, I hope all is well with you and yours, I have a question for you but first i've got to tell you i'm a member of a hypnosis newsgroup here in England and there is a big buzz about your speed trance dvd, there's been loads of posts regarding the dvd and your mastering hypnotic power and how to hypnotize anyone dvds, I believe one of the members has put a bulk order in for them? i put a post in to tell everyone how good the dvds are (the dvds have opened up new things for me and the speed trance inductions have been really successful for me...Thankyou!)
Well i thought i'd share that with you as you said on the dvds you'd like to hear about things that people had done after learning from you.
Many Thanks once again,
Ritchie C.
P.S. I got your email regarding new products and i'll soon be ordering the SKITS & BITS and the NLP dvds.

Hi Richard, "Happy New Year",
So far from your store i have purchased speed trance, michael johns stage induction, inductions and deepeners vol 2 and mastering hypnotic power and i must say these products are absolutely brilliant. I have been studying and practising hypnosis for about 18 months and although it's only a short time, i have studied hard and got my hands on as many training dvds and books as i can and been to seminars and sourced as much information as i possibly can to fully understand HYPNOSIS and the MIND and it has really benefited me and set me in good stead for all my future learnings, but your dvds especially speed trance, inductions & deepeners 2 and mastering hypnotic power are sensational and have boosted my abilities and confidence even more so in such a short space of time, so i'd like to take this opportunity to thank you for your great inspirational training.
Also, ... are you planning any seminars / workshops in England this year?
I HOPE SO.
Once Again, Many Thanks
Ritchie C.

I just finished reading the Black Book --- for those considering ordering it, it is a must have when starting out in Stage Hypnosis. A great book that details the specific steps that need to be present that create the show as a whole. Great work guys! Thanks.

I own a lot of products by Richard Nongard. They are all VERY good! His hypnosis DVDs do not have a mentalism slant like Luke Jermay's INDUCTION appears to have, but I can tell you that you will learn a lot. He will not teach you pseudo-hypnosis effects but pure, genuine hypnosis.
Take SPEED TRANCE for example. Richard Nongard and John Cerbone claim to be able to drop someone into a state of hypnosis and trance in under 5 seconds. That sounded like a pipe dream to me. But I bought the DVD and gave it a fair shot. Everything seemed to work VERY well for them. So I took some notes while watching the 2 DVD set again and formed a speed trance induction to suit my style. The first person I tried this out on told me he has never been hypnotized and doesn't believe it is possible. I went into a good pre-talk and clarified a few points about hypnosis. Then I asked him if he would like to go into a state of hypnosis right now (those familiar with NLP can see the beauty in my presuppositions)! Within 3 seconds he was in trance. That is how effective trance can be and I really think SPEED TRANCE is a great place to start (especially while we are waiting to see what Luke Jermay and Penguin have to offer). With a little creativity, you can make amazing demonstrations of mind reading, mind control, and weerd psychic phenomena using SPEED TRANCE. I highly recommend Richard Nongard's products and hope that Luke Jermay's material can match what Richard has released. I guess only time will tell...

Dear Richard,
How are you? We met at the NGH convention this summer. I work as a Certified Hypnotherapist in California.
I love speaking in front of people and entertaining them. I want to give you some feedback on you videos about stage hypnosis. At convention, I bought the blue, "Michal Johns Stage Hypnosis Induction" DVD. After watching that video several times, I called up and ordered the rest of the DVD's for Stage hypnosis.
THIS STUFF IS GREAT!
I have already implemented much of what I learned into my therapy sessions and presentations. I cannot say witch video I liked best. They were so educational. The one with John Cerbone was a masterpiece. You fostered amazing clarity as to how to induce a speed trance with guaranteed success. I even went out and bought a red space pen. I will eventually use something else as a fun convincer other than John Cerbone's pen. For now, it inspires me.
The Terry Stokes video is also great. I watched it for the 5th time last night. I should let you know that I very much admire you your regard for safety, integrity, and your contributions in the industry.
The Mastering Hypnotic Power –Stage, Street & Clinical is another great piece of work. You did a good job on that!
Richard, I want more.
How soon can you produce a video that is just on the pre-talk? I have seen yours, Terry's, Michael's and others. I would love you to dissect that area before watching other videos on stage routines. Some are longer than others are. Some are more educational. Some are just entertaining and prepares everyone for a great show. I am working on what works best for me. Nevertheless, delivering a good pre-talk is crucial to the shows success.
I will be the next generation of great stage hypnotists. I would love to continue learning from you.
Respectfully yours,
Marc D., MS, CH
